Information for patients considering private medical consultations

Some treatments are not available at all on the NHS, or are only available to people with certain health problems, or have very long waiting lists.  Examples of these treatments include weight loss jabs, treatment for ADHD and sugery for obesity.  Some people consider sourcing private treatment in these circumstances and it is important to understand, before starting treatment, what would happen if you cannot afford to continue with it.

Please see the new guidance has recently been issued by NHS Lothian and we have included it under the Useful information tab.

There is also useful information about having surgical prcoedures abroad on the NHS Inform website: Surgery abroad without NHS referral | NHS inform
